Location

7703 Floyd Curl Dr. San Antonio, TX 78229 UT Health San Antonio Academic Learning and Teaching Center Room 304

Event Details:
Please join us at this free town hall to learn how you can make San Antonio a dementia-friendly city. The Caring for the Caregiver program at the School of Nursing and the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases work together to support the health and well-being of people with dementia and their family caregivers.

Dementia does not only impact those with a diagnosis, it can be felt across a community. This is a forum for all members of the community. We particularly encourage persons with dementia and their family caregivers to attend. We welcome everyone to come learn how to adopt dementia-friendly practices in their personal and professional lives. By attending this event you will:

  • become familiar with what dementia friendly means for our community
  • gain understanding of how neighbors and communities can support people with dementia and their family caregivers.

Light refreshments will be provided at 5:30pm. Parking is free.

This free event is hosted by the Community Advisory Board of the Caring for the Caregiver program at UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing in collaboration with the Glenn Biggs Institute, the Alzheimer's Association San Antonio and South Texas Chapter, the ACOG Alamo Area Agency on Aging, and WellMed Caregiver SOS.

Will there be respite care?

While we encourage individuals with dementia to join us for the Town Hall, we would also like to offer the opportunity to participate in a Cognitive Engagement Program next door in room 305. This is a chance for individuals with dementia to participate in an alternative activity while their loved ones attend the Town Hall.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Sara Masoud at masoud@uthscsa.edu or (210) 450-8487 before September 27th, 2018.
