This session will cover Managing Frailty and Type 2 Diabetes while using behavioral interventions. We will discuss how the condition occurs and how our body reacts and ways to prevent Type 2 Diabetes, additionally we will also cover symptoms, affected areas including risk factors.

Dr. Rozmin Jiwani Ph.D., RN,

Dr. Rozmin Jiwani is a nurse-scientist and advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) with expertise in managing chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and frailty. Certified by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, she actively integrates lifestyle medicine principles into her research, teaching, and community engagement. Her work, recognized nationally and internationally, focuses on enhancing health span and lifespan through behavioral lifestyle interventions incorporating mindfulness, mobile health technology, and cultural tailoring, particularly for immigrant populations and vulnerable older adults. A graduate of the prestigious "PATIENTS Professor Academy Program" at the University of Maryland, she excels in community-engaged research. She has contributed to initiatives like the Bridge podcast to strengthen community-researcher partnerships. As a Certified Mental Health Support Trainer, she aids students in navigating challenging conversations and accessing mental health resources. Her mentorship extends globally, guiding graduate and undergraduate students in compassionate and impactful research practices. Recognized as an RL5 Scholar through the San Antonio Claude D. Pepper Center, her pilot project demonstrated the feasibility of lifestyle interventions in improving frailty and type 2 diabetes outcomes in older adults. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance health and wellness among diverse communities, with the ultimate goal of designing sustainable interventions that reduce the burden of chronic diseases while fostering positive behavioral changes and improved quality of life.
