This presentation will cover the unique roles caregivers take on when caring for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities. We will discuss several main “roles” these caregivers face in the day-to-day caregiving grind. There will also be discussion about unique considerations caregivers should give attention to as they and their loved one ages.

About the Speaker(s)

Dr. Jennifer Fisher, DNP, MSN-ED, RN, MHA, CCM 

Associate Professor/Clinical

UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing

Dr. Fisher is an accomplished nurse with over 25 years of experience at the bedside and in the community. Working in areas such as adult surgical, pediatric hematology/oncology, pediatric intermediate care, pediatric intensive care, pediatric home health, pediatric private duty nursing, telephonic case management, and within the community respite setting has allowed her to develop extensive skills and knowledge in both adult and pediatric populations. Dr. Fisher has a special interest in working with & advocating for individuals with special needs and their caregivers through Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP). As a result of her time with CAMP, she realized her passion for teaching and helping every person achieve their maximum potential. Educationally prepared with an MS in nursing education (2021) and a DNP in leadership (2023), Dr. Fisher believes that every learner can be successful with the right support.
