Seminar 1
“Understanding the Stages of Dementia”
10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
During this event, Tam Cummings will focus on how to track the dementia process by using her innovative Dementia Behavioral Assessment Tool, based in part on Reisberg’s Global Deterioration Scale. Tam will also discuss:
- Matching specific behaviors to seven ‘stages’ of dementia
- How damage to the brain at each stage impacts capabilities and behaviors
- How long each stage is estimated to last
- Information to help you prepare for your dementia journey
Seminar 2
“Identifying and Working with Combative Dementia-related Behaviors”
6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Caregivers often must deal with combative, aggressive, and agitated behaviors from those who suffer from dementia. During this presentation, Tam will share how dementia brain damage can result in negative verbal and physical behaviors. She also will introduce a behavioral charting system and teach how to adapt the caregiver’s response to negative behaviors for the best possible outcome.
